DRAUGHT SURVEY

Independent Cargo Quantity Determination

A draught survey is a method used to determine the quantity of cargo loaded or discharged by measuring the vessel's displacement before and after cargo operations. It is widely used for bulk cargoes such as coal, iron ore, grains, fertilisers and other commodities.

WHY IS IT REQUIRED?

Draught surveys provide an independent determination of cargo quantities and help shipowners, charterers, traders and cargo interests verify loaded or discharged weights. They are also commonly used in the event of quantity disputes.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

HOW IS IT CARRIED OUT

The survey is conducted by taking draught readings and collecting vessel information before and after cargo operations. The vessel's displacement is calculated using approved hydrostatic tables and all necessary corrections are applied to determine the cargo quantity.

RESULTS AND REPORTING

Following completion of the survey, a detailed report is issued containing all observations, calculations and the final cargo quantity determination. Reports can be provided promptly to support operational and commercial requirements.
