Independent Ullage Measurements of Liquid Cargoes
Ullage measurements are carried out to determine the quantity of liquid cargo in vessel tanks or shore storage tanks. The survey may cover edible oils, petroleum products.
The surveyor measures the ullage, cargo temperature and free water, where present. The measurements are converted into cargo volumes using approved tank calibration tables. Density and temperature correction factors are then applied where required to calculate the final cargo quantity.
Independent ullage measurements are normally required before and after loading or discharge, during cargo transfer, or whenever an independent verification of liquid cargo quantity is needed.
The survey helps owners, charterers, terminals, shippers and receivers confirm cargo quantities and reduce the risk of quantity disputes.
After completion of the survey, the client receives an ullage report or certificate showing the tank measurements, cargo temperatures, applied corrections and calculated cargo quantities.
